EMF Testing
Assess EMF levels with total confidence
If you work with electronic or electrical equipment, you should regularly assess potential exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) to reduce employee health risks and comply with Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work (CEMFAW) Regulations.
Our start-to-finish service covers the entire EMF testing process, from locating and measuring exposure to providing detailed test reports and remedial solutions for non-compliance.

What is EMF testing?
Electromagnetic Field (EMF) testing measures and controls the levels of both electric and magnetic fields that people are exposed to when using electrical equipment, and ensures they’re within safe limits for exposure.
A testing service can cover environmental and/or product-based compliance, and can be based on limits for occupational health and safety or general public exposure. EMF assessments use electric and magnetic field probes and other specialised equipment.
Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) arises from electrical equipment—including everything from household appliances such as a microwave oven to industrial machinery. High EMF levels can pose health risks unless the right steps are taken. Manufacturers also have a duty of care for people with pacemakers, as electromagnetic fields can disrupt the function of these devices.
There are several national and international regulations that control the limits of EMF, and the International Commission of Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) is used as a guide for safe working levels.

Why is EMF testing important?
Electromagnetic field (EMF) emissions are an important consideration for sites that operate high current or high radio frequency levels—for example, plasma machines, semiconductor wafers, fab tools and RF welding tools.
The government has outlined the responsibility of employers to assess the levels of EMF and address potential risks of high levels for employees—including adverse health effects—in the Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work (CEMFAW) Regulations 2016.
Manufacturers have a duty to carry out EMF testing to confirm EMF exposure levels and ensure that they are below the exposure limit values (ELVs) specified in the CEMFAW Regulations.
Manufacturers should consider conducting regular tests to ensure compliance—many choose to do this annually. This helps cover wear and tear and can be considered as part of maintenance.
Trusted by SPTS Technologies, Element Six, Pall Europe and more
Since 1991, we’ve been helping manufacturers in the semiconductor, pharma and other high-technology industries to test and risk assess electrical equipment in cleanrooms, labs, production facilities and other sites that operate high-voltage applications across the UK.
